Popo Carnaval

The Popo carnival of Bonoua is a cultural festival celebrated every year.

It has its origins in the modifications that the young Abouré of Bonoua, a town located in the south-east of the Ivory Coast, made to the annual yam festival.

Thus, in 1946, they innovated by organizing the "Popo" which means "mask" in the Abouré language.

Later, these young people who initiated the "Popo" become adults, baptized this time the annual festival of the yams of the name "Popo Carnival", by introducing the modern aspect of the carnival there in the form of a parade of all the living forces of the region.
